The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Safety will today 20 March 2025, host a stakeholder engagement session as part of its Focused Intervention Study (FIS) titled “Assessing the Level of Compliance by SAPS to the Domestic Violence Act.”
This critical session will bring together various stakeholders to discuss intervention programmes aimed at addressing domestic violence and improving compliance with the Domestic Violence Act.
The study, conducted by the Portfolio Committee, involved visits to several police stations with high numbers of domestic violence cases.
The purpose of these visits was to assess the stations’ compliance with the Domestic Violence Act, particularly in their handling of victims and perpetrators of domestic violence.
Some of the key findings from the study will be shared during the session, alongside recommendations for improving compliance and service delivery.
The engagement will focus on best practices and measures aimed at ensuring police stations comply with the Domestic Violence Act as well as the handling of protection orders and responses to acts of domestic violence.
This stakeholder engagement session is a pivotal step toward addressing systemic challenges in the implementation of the Domestic Violence Act and ensuring that victims of domestic violence receive the protection and support they deserve.
