Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane is deeply saddened by the death of Likhona Fose, a 14-year-old Grade 8 girl learner at Ikusasalethu Secondary School in Braamfischerville, whose body was found mutilated in Roodepoort on Sunday, 1 June 2025.
The body of 14-year-old Likhona Fose, who was reported missing on Saturday, was discovered on Sunday in an open veld in the Durban Deep area of Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg.
According to local authorities, Likhona had last been seen on Saturday afternoon. Her disappearance triggered an intensive search by family members, community members, and local law enforcement.
Tragically, her body was found less than 24 hours later in a field not far from her home.
The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear. Police have launched a full investigation and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
The discovery has left the Durban Deep community in shock and mourning. Grieving residents gathered near the scene on Sunday, lighting candles and offering prayers in her memory.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of death, and an autopsy is expected to be conducted this week.
