Kampala, Uganda – The African Coalition of Communities Responsive to Climate Change (ACCRCC) is proud to announce its participation in the 2025 Summer School on Just and Sustainable Energy Transitions in Africa, scheduled to take place from June 23 to July 4, 2025, in Kampala, Uganda.
Organized by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in partnership with Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Makerere University, and the Africa Research and Impact Network (ARIN), this highly anticipated summer school brings together policymakers, researchers, civil society actors, and early-career professionals from across the continent to explore equitable pathways for Africa’s energy transition.
ACCRCC’s engagement in this transformative initiative aligns with its mission to amplify community voices and ensure that climate and energy policies are just, inclusive, and grounded in the lived realities of African people. Represented by a delegation of grassroots community leaders and technical experts, ACCRCC will contribute to key thematic areas including:
· Oil Development amidst Global Energy Uncertainty
· Justice and Gender in Energy Transitions
· Solar Energy Communities.
ACCRCC will also share experiences from community-based renewable energy projects and advocate for policies that prioritize energy access, gender equity, and climate justice.
Through its participation, the Coalition aims to ensure that the perspectives of historically marginalized communities shape the continent’s transition toward low-carbon, people-centered energy futures.
“The Summer School presents a unique opportunity for our coalition to contribute to and learn from diverse African and global actors,” said Dr Rosalid Nkirote, ACCRCC Executive Director. “As communities at the frontline of the climate crisis, we believe that a just transition must be inclusive of the very people who bear the brunt of energy poverty and climate injustice.”
ACCRCC’s participation will further strengthen regional collaborations and knowledge-sharing on bottom-up strategies to accelerate Africa’s energy transition. The Coalition looks forward to engaging in field excursions, capacity-building workshops, and student-led innovation forums that spotlight the complex intersections of oil development, climate resilience, and sustainable energy.
