As South Africa reflects on the future of its Youth this June, a critical question is emerging: how prepared are learners and their support networks for an economy that is rapidly becoming digital?
While innovation and technology continue to evolve rapidly, access to foundational knowledge about blockchain and digital assets, particularly in underserved communities, has lagged behind. Binance is working to close this gap through a new partnership with IkamvaYouth, bringing introductory crypto and blockchain education into township learning environments.
As part of the initiative, Binance will distribute 200 copies of its ABCs of Crypto book to IkamvaYouth learning centres in Gauteng and the Western Cape where they will be used by learners together with caregivers, tutors, and educators, supported by workshops and ongoing engagement.
The programme forms part of Binance’s broader effort to make crypto and blockchain education more accessible and practical through community-based learning. This includes Binance Academy, a free, global platform offering articles, videos, and courses on blockchain, crypto and Web3 topics. Through partnerships like IkamvaYouth, Binance aims to extend access to these resources and support both learners and educators with trusted, easy-to-understand content.
“Access to technology must be matched with access to understanding,” says Yande Nomvete, Operations Manager at Binance Africa. “Young people are growing up in a system that looks very different to the one their parents entered. If we do not equip them early, we risk widening the gap between those who can participate in the digital economy and those who cannot.”
The ABCs of Crypto book simplifies complex topics into clear, relatable concepts, introducing the basics of blockchain and digital assets. It is designed to support guided, co-learning between learners, parents, and educators, making the material more accessible and practical.
For IkamvaYouth, the partnership adds a future focused layer to its academic support programmes. By integrating foundational crypto and blockchain understanding, it is helping equip learners and their support networks to engage with emerging digital technologies.
“Youth Month is a reminder that opportunity is not evenly distributed and education is one of the most powerful tools we have to change that,” adds Nomvete. “Partnerships like this allow us to bring accessible knowledge into communities, supporting both learners and the people guiding them.”
Beyond book distribution, Binance will continue working with IkamvaYouth through on the ground initiatives, including sessions led by Binance Angels to provide ongoing support and real world context to the material.
The partnership reflects Binance’s broader focus on responsible innovation in Africa, combining technology, education, and community engagement to improve understanding of digital assets and blockchain.
As digital technologies continue to evolve globally, initiatives like this highlight a growing need to ensure communities are equipped with the knowledge to participate.
