| To celebrate Johannesburg’s 140th birthday, join the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation on Johannesburg’s Beginnings: Ferreirasdorp, taking us back to a landscape of diggings, tents, ox wagons and the start of the city we know today. Walk with Karen Curry to the Randjeslaagte Beacon, marking the western point of the original triangle that became Johannesburg in 1886, then head down Diagonal Street following the stories of the many Johanneses linked to the city’s name. A walk through Ferreirasdorp traces the beginnings of Johannesburg, from gold diggings and ox wagons to the city we know today. (Photo: Supplied) |
