The Petitions Standing Committee (PSC), chaired by Honourable Ezra Letsoalo, will spend Friday, 10 March, with the community of Merafong in the West Rand District Municipality, discussing long outstanding service delivery-related petitions with the intention to resolve them.

Relevant authorities and officials from Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) departments will be present to answer questions from community members and present plans to address service delivery delays.

Public hearings of this nature – where residents are invited to discuss various service delivery related challenges with GPG departments – are the Legislature’s effort to resolve them, often necessitated by the departments’ unresponsiveness to multiple call logs by residents.

Petitions for discussion this Friday range from sewerage system issues to lack of basic services, lack of development, and the disastrous effects of sinkholes.

The eight (8) petitions that will be discussed were selected from the large pool of West Rand petitions currently sitting on the Committee’s petitions desk – most of which are from the area of Khutsong.

This petitions’ hearing comes a few days after Premier, Panyaza Lesufi spoke to the Merafong community regarding rampant sinkholes in the area, where he assured residents that the matter was top of the GPG’s priority list, along with other service delivery delays.
