By Zibu MaSotobe,
We ALL start somewhere‼️‼️ the people you see driving big cars and making serious money most of them started where you refuse to go.
My first job was being paid R800 a month to teach Mathematics and Science in a rural school, the other teacher who was hired by the School Governing Body was getting paid R4, 000 and that hurt, but it also taught me something, that’s I am not that teacher️ and I had to stop comparing myself.
I lived at my aunt’s home in rural eSamungu (you can’t even find it on the map️) and I walked 11km to and from school (right along my students) and sometimes carrying their marked papers. I walked in the sun, and I walked in the rain️ on a dusty gravel road.
Today, I charge R35, 000 to speak for 45-60 minutes, my smallest work contract is R3 million per annum and I own property and I create employment. When I hire people, I provide free accommodation which is walking distance from our offices because I know the difference that makes.
But if I had stayed home back then and refused to be “exploited” I would still be in my rural hometown and wishing for a job. I was used by that school and the SGB, and that made me “useful” and being productive attracts more productivity.
To get to where you want to go, you must start where you are and sometimes that’s starting from zero, they laughed at us too when we were being used by institutions. But leaving home everyday gave us access to more information that would have never found us in our homes.
Sometimes they offer you R3, 000 per month because that’s all that a business can afford to pay you right now, but if you get there and perform at your best, you won’t stay there for long!
Don’t take the job if you are not grateful for it (your energy becomes toxic to the workplace) stay home. But if you are going to take a job, then show up at your “A” game and represent yourself well, soon enough, opportunities will start looking for you.
The bible says: “Do not despise small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin” when I walked those kilometres, the heavens rejoiced because the work of building a president had begun.
START your own journey, go out and sell in the sun, share those pamphlets, take that learner-ship, take the leap of faith️ and your God will meet you there and he will multiply.
