International Fraud Awareness Week is here, and as always, Absa is committed to helping you stay safe and protected from scammers. Fraudsters are always trying something new to separate you from your hard-earned money, but we’re here to arm you with the knowledge and tools that you need to spot the red flags and take action.

This toolkit will help you learn about the most common types of fraud, how to identify them, and what to do if you think that you’ve been a victim.

Phishing, smishing, and vishing:

Watch out for tricky emails, texts, and calls posing as your trusted bank. Fraudsters might spin tales about imminent transactions, urging you to click on a link. Suspect fraud? Delete the email or message immediately. If it is a phone call, hang up and always remember that Absa will never call you and ask you for your PIN, password, or card number and ask you to move money from your account(s).

Identity theft:

Your identity is priceless! Activate Credit Report Alerts with reputable credit bureau. It’s your extra layer of
security to ensure that no one’s applying for credit in your name. If you suspect fraud call or send a WhatsApp to the Absa Fraud Hotline on 0860 557 557.

Deposit scams:

Caution! If someone promises goods or services with payment to your account, stay alert. Fraudsters love sharing fake payment proofs. Smell a rat? Call the Absa Fraud Hotline on 0860 557 557 or report swiftly via the Absa Banking App.

Investment scams:

Keep those scam radars on a high! Unrealistic returns with low risks? If it feels too good to be true, it probably is. Safeguard your earnings and connect with the Absa Fraud Hotline if anything seems off.
