Dr Kolisa Yola Sinyanya is an award-winning ocean scientist, science communicator, and entrepreneur with a PhD in Ocean Biogeochemistry from the University of Cape Town.
She leads Ulwazi Scientific Communications and co-founded Kwande Education Foundation. She champions ocean sustainability, gender equity in STEM, and the inclusion of African scientists in decision-making.
Dr. Sinyanya says: “These shifts [automation, remote work and AI] are creating new opportunities for women in STEM to become more independent and entrepreneurial. With AI and remote work tools becoming more accessible, we’re seeing a growing trend of women starting their own consulting entities, research businesses, and tech platforms.
“This is especially true in niche areas like scientific communication, data analysis, and tech-enabled education. The future is flexible and will be increasingly defined by ownership and self-direction.”
