Afrika Tikkun is excited to share a significant milestone in our ongoing partnership with Discovery Vitality. On 20 June 2025, the first pairs of donated running shoes from the Give2Move initiative were officially handed over to young beneficiaries at our Wings of Life Centre in Diepsloot, with Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, in attendance.
About Give2Move
Give2Move, launched in February, is a nationwide campaign inviting all South Africans to donate new or gently worn running and sports shoes. The goal: help youth aged 13 to 30 take their first steps towards a healthier, more active life. The initiative is a collaborative effort between Discovery Vitality, Afrika Tikkun, and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, underscoring the power of public-private partnerships to drive real change.
“At Discovery Vitality, we believe that movement is a powerful catalyst for change. The Give2Move initiative is about more than just shoes – it’s about unlocking potential, dignity, and opportunity through physical activity.” – Dr Karen Johnson, Head of Strategic Programmes and Wellness, Discovery Vitality
How You Can Get Involved
Donate Shoes: Drop off new or gently worn sports shoes at any Discovery office, Virgin Active gym, Sportsmans Warehouse, Discovery Soccer Park, or selected parkrun events nationwide.
Make a Financial Contribution: Support the purchase of high-demand sizes by donating through Afrika Tikkun.
Spread the Word: Encourage friends, family, and colleagues to participate – every pair makes a difference!
Calling All Schools: Join the #VitalityGive2Move Competition
Schools across South Africa are invited to join the movement! Register your school to receive a collection bin, donate gently worn (or new) sports shoes, and rally your community to support the cause. The two schools that collect the most shoes (one with fewer than 1,000 learners, one with more) will each win R50,000 to boost their own wellness and physical activity programmes. Competition runs: 1 June – 15 August 2025

Our Impact Together
This first handover event is just the beginning. With your support, we can reach more young people, restore dignity, and unlock opportunities through sport and movement.
“When government, corporates and civil society come together with a shared vision, we unlock real, scalable change. The Give2Move campaign is a testament to what public-private partnerships can achieve, restoring dignity, driving inclusion and investing in the potential of every South African.” – Marc Lubner, Group CEO, Afrika Tikkun.
