As Mandela Month ends, four students from IIE MSA did a book drive to collect books and add to the library collection at Far North Secondary School in Cosmo City. The collection will go a long way to reinforcing the culture of reading at the school.

A part of their internship programme and community upliftment initiative, the four students were helping Nyakaza Media Solutions with the formulation of a Marketing Strategy to improve and grow the organisation.

“We truly appreciate the book donation from IIE MSA, we truly appreciate,” said Far North Principal Sello Maropeng.

Far North Secondary School serves the Zandspruit Informal Settlement community though it is in Cosmo City. The school is in Ward 100 since its establishment in 2014. The school is Quantile 1 with a feeding scheme. It has 4 Grade 8 classes, 4 Grade 9 classes, 5 Grade 10 and 3 Grade 11 classes and in 2016 they grew into Grade 12.

When the school was established, there were 713 learners with 45- 50 learners per class and 16 classrooms in total. The school has no school library, hall and playing fields for the learners. Learners travel by buses from Zandspruit to come to school everyday, a 10-minute drive. Learners’ ages range between 13 and 19 years.

The Vision: To Provide and Maintain Quality Education.

The Mission: To provide a safe environment which fosters mutual respect between learners, parents, teachers and administrators while also cultivating productive citizens by providing structure and support for academic and emotional growth.

Values: Honesty, Integrity, Trust, Dedication, Co-operation, and Time Management.
We invite and encourage parents to come on board!!!!!

Parents should be involved in the learners’ education:

• Check that the learners have all their books;

• Check that all learners have study timetables;

• Let’s make sure that our learners are dedicated and involved in their school-work;

• Go through the learners’ Assessment Plan to check on progress;

• Any school-work that needs signing, should be signed;

• We will die and leave our children behind, make sure they are left behind with great values;
• Make sure they are left with a decent education;

• The only certificate they have is their birth certificate; MAKE SURE THEY GET THEIR MATRIC CERTIFICATES to open the doors to the rest of their LIVES!
