“Firstly, we are living in times where instant gratification is something we are faced with forgetting that the small steps we take are a big contribution to the larger picture that awaits us. Giving up is not an option because in giving up, progress cannot be seen. A journey of a thousand miles begins with single steps and unfortunately those small steps require patience.
We also need to look at peoples’ achievements as motivation never as competition or you feeling like you are being delayed because we are all embarking on different journeys.
One important reminder is that we are living in a very digital era and social media contributes to a lot as people tend to reflect on the self and notice a delay or failure in their lives. Keep in mind that we do not document our failures so remember to stay calm and try again. Keep in mind that our greatest successes come from the lessons learnt from our moment of failures.
Receiving the Rectors Award at the University of Stellenbosch for Excellent Achievement has been by far the best achievement that I can boldly say that I am proud of and has been a good highlight in my personal and academic life.”
