MEC of Finance and Economic Development Lebogang Maile together with representatives from the professional services firm Ernst & Young (EY) will release the findings of the first ever Gauteng Municipal Economic Review and Outlook (MERO) on Monday 23 June 2025.
MERO is an intelligence publication that is aimed at informing integrated planning, spatial frameworks, economic development strategies and budgets in local government.
The research document was commissioned by Gauteng Provincial Treasury to serve as both a diagnostic tool and policy guide, offering actionable recommendations to strengthen municipal governance, stimulate township economies, and improve investment climates across Gauteng’s development corridors.
The launch of the publication will be a platform for leaders in government, academia, business and investment to critically analyse the performance of local government with a view on improving service delivery to communities in line with provincial priorities.
