By Township Entrepreneurs Alliance – TEA
The Kasi Business Workshop returns to Galeshewe for its 37th edition at the Recreation Hall (Home Defenders Boxing Gym) under the theme “Marketing Your Business”, equipping township entrepreneurs with practical strategies to promote their businesses both online and offline. In commemoration of Nelson Mandela Day, the workshop will dedicate 67 minutes to empowering township entrepreneurs to grow their business.
In the last three years, the Kasi Business Workshop has directly impacted over a thousand entrepreneurs in Northern Cape. Among them, Keoweditse Gloria Moremedi, a nurse-entrepreneur from Galeshewe, and Yvonne Links, a local chef from Paballelo, each walking away with R50 000, a blend of cash and business support, through the Kasi Pitching Challenge. They turned their ideas into real businesses, serving their communities and bridging the unemployment gap. Their stories indicate what is possible when township entrepreneurs are provided with resources and a platform. Which is why we are back in Galeshewe, to crown another Kasi Pitching Challenge winner.
According to a 2020 University of South Africa study, SMMEs experiencing a growth in turnover over three years were almost twice as active in marketing compared to those whose turnover declined. Those SMMEs reporting a decline in turnover in the prior year expressed a clear demand for more marketing training. Therefore, township businesses are full of passion and potential but often lack visibility. Without the right marketing tools, even the best products and services can go unnoticed. This workshop gives practical lessons on how to grow your brand, attract more customers, boost your visibility, whether you are online or running a stall in your community.
Overview: Kasi Business Workshop
This is more than just a workshop, it is a full-day business experience rich with learning, exposure and opportunity. In fact, over 68% of people who attend Kasi Business Workshops go on to do business with each other. That is market access in action.
Masterclass: Marketing Your Business
Township entrepreneurs will receive practical advice on how to promote their businesses by using social media to find target customers. They will learn how to create content that attracts attention, how to choose the right platforms for their type of business, and how to speak directly to the customers they want to reach. The workshop will also cover tips on building an online presence, growing a loyal following, and turning likes and shares into real sales.
Kasi Business Exhibition
The Kasi Business Exhibition is a chance for township entrepreneurs to display and sell their products or services to a new audience. It is a great opportunity to build awareness, meet new customers, and connect with potential partners. Only 20 stalls are available. Each exhibitor will also receive support from Nedbank, including access to a PocketPOS card machine, so they can accept card payments and generate real sales on the day.

Kasi Pitching Challenge
The Kasi Pitching Challenge is an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to turn a great business idea into real support. If you have a strong idea or an existing small business, you can enter the challenge by sharing a short pitch. The winner will receive R50 000 plus Nedbank’s PocketPOS card machine to help with sales. The invitation to pitch will only be sent to registered attendees.
Networking
This is not your typical high-five-the-person-next-to-you moment. Networking at the Kasi Business Workshop is an intentional, guided experience designed to turn strangers into collaborators and ideas into partnerships.
Mbawula Chat
The Mbawula Chat is an inspiring sit-down conversation with a business leader who has built their success in the township. They will share personal stories, useful lessons and practical tips on how to use marketing to build a strong brand and grow a successful business in the township.
