Mandela Day honours Nelson Mandela’s legacy through action. It’s especially meaningful for SADAG, as we were founded in 1994, the year Mandela was freed, and our democracy began.

Just as he fought for freedom, SADAG strives to bring equality and support for Mental Health, giving a voice to those often left in silence.

This year, our campaign, “Your 67 Minutes of Kindness, Giving & Mental Health!” champions kindness, an integral part of Mental Health. Every act of kindness, big or small, profoundly impacts our own mental well-being and that of others. Just as Mandela brought hope, your kindness this Mandela Day can bring hope to countless individuals struggling with their Mental Health.

Join SADAG in celebrating the power of kindness and reignite the Madiba Magic! Every act creates a ripple effect, improving lives and mental well-being.

Here are some ways to spread kindness this Mandela Day

1.) Kindness to Oneself: Caring for your Mental Health

Taking care of your Mental Health begins with showing yourself compassion. Just as you’d offer support to a friend, extend that same understanding and care to your own mind and body. This Mandela Day, practice self-kindness to build resilience and improve your Mental Health. Just as Mandela gave 67 years to service, dedicate at least 67 minutes this Mandela Day to yourself.

Mindful Moments

2.) Kindness to Others: Spreading Positivity and Connection

icons-02Extending kindness to others not only brightens their day but also offers Mental Health benefits to the giver. Acts of humanity are linked to increased happiness, reduced stress, and improved social connections – all vital for mental well-being. Ways to Show Kindness to Others:

3. Extending Kindness Through Action: Supporting Mental Health

Support those who are struggling with their Mental Health. Many individuals in South Africa face significant barriers to accessing Mental Health support, from stigma to financial constraints. By supporting organisations like SADAG, you are directly contributing to a kinder, more mentally healthy society.

This Mandela Day, we encourage you to:

-Volunteer Your Time:

If you have 67 minutes (or more!) to spare, consider reaching out to local Mental Health initiatives or community centres to see how you can offer your time and skills. Even small contributions of time can make a significant difference.

-Spread Awareness:

Share accurate information about Mental Health, share resources that may encourage help-seeking behaviour, challenge stigma, and encourage open conversations. Your voice can be a powerful tool for kindness and change.
