The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) invites members of the media to attend and cover its Africa Day Commemoration event, which aims to celebrate the continent’s rich history, cultural heritage, and collective journey toward independence and unity.
Africa Day marks the historic moment when African countries took strides towards liberation and self-determination. In recognition of this, the GPL will host a commemorative event highlighting the continent’s achievements, resilience, and the enduring spirit of unity among its nations.
This year’s commemoration will not only reflect on Africa’s journey to independence, but also serve as a platform to promote African unity and solidarity by condemning xenophobic attacks and intolerance amongst Africans as well as to encourage Gauteng citizens to embrace cultural diversity, deepen their understanding of African issues, and foster social cohesion.
As part of the event, the GPL will host an Africa Day Expo featuring Embassies from various African countries with which the Legislature shares strong relations. These Embassies will showcase their national cuisine, crafts, ornaments, and cultural heritage as part of a collective effort to educate and inspire citizens to celebrate and preserve Africa’s rich traditions.
The media is encouraged to attend and cover this significant event, engage with Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs) as well as Diplomatic Representatives and help amplify the message of African unity and tolerance.
