Professor Nombulelo Sepeng is an NRF-rated, and award-winning lecturer who is also the programme manager for Research and Postgraduate Studies in the Department of Nursing Science at the University of Pretoria.
Working with hospitals and NGOs, she raises awareness about violence against women and children while developing trauma-informed care frameworks for primary healthcare.
Prof. Sepeng says: “Emerging health scholars are producing culturally sensitive thinking in areas like adolescent pregnancy, gender-based violence, and maternal-child health using research frameworks such as the Ubuntu Model of Nursing Science, which is grounded in African perspectives, values local experiences and promotes intellectual sovereignty. This can dramatically strengthen wellbeing for groups like women, youth, and caregivers, and can create a future that is more just, and more inclusive.”
