MathU kicks off the 2026 year
To make a real impact on education in South Africa, learners need access to world-class education tools. The biggest barrier isn’t willingness or ability – it’s access. In rural communities, only 10% of households have access to mobile data. That’s the gap we need to close.
This is the message from MathU at their 2026 stakeholder kick-off event, held at Tracker’s head office. MathU is focused on having a measurable and meaningful impact on education at a national scale and has built incredible tools that bring customised maths and science learning to the hands of learners in under resourced areas.
MathU’s primary goal, or vision for the 2026 year, is to get their Infinity app zero rated. This will mean that learners within the 16 000 odd non-fee-paying schools, mainly in under-resourced communities – those that don’t have ready access to data – would be able to use and benefit from the MathU Infinity app without data. The app has been offered free of charge to all learners since May 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic.
MathU is an AI-powered learning platform for Grade 7 to 12 students. Through adaptive learning and personalised assistance, MathU empowers learners to strengthen their skills and achieve results in Mathematics and Physical Science. It uses two key approaches:
· Micro approach – A focused model where selected learners receive: Android devices, monthly data, tailored resources, and dedicated mentorship from a MathU mentor.
· Macro approach – A scalable solution that uses the OnlyTests book series, a data-driven exam preparation guide allowing students to learn at their own pace. This is supported by AgenticONE, a 24/7 PhD-level AI tutor that guides learners step-by-step through dynamic conversation. Using the latest in speech-to-speech technology, it can respond in multiple languages and provide examples that are relevant to each learner, such as soccer or Formula 1.
MathU also helps learners connect their academic success to real-world opportunities like bursaries, career paths, and workplace skills.
The impact of MathU is best reflected in the journeys of individual learners who have defied odds and achieved outstanding academic success.
· Tshiamo Seonyane: improved from 55% in Mathematics and 42% in Physical Science to 80% in both subjects, enabling her to graduate with distinctions.
· Prevail Mkandawire: improved her maths mark from 43% to 53% through consistent effort.
· Mbali Nogoba: boosted her Mathematics from 62% to 88% and Physical Science from 59% to 80%. She is now studying for a Bachelor of Pharmacy at the University of Witwatersrand.
MathU’s corporate partnerships have been instrumental in helping learners access these resources. Tracker was the first corporate partner to believe in the MathU vision and has been a proud sponsor of MathU since 2017.
Tracker’s support has enabled students in Magaliesburg State School, Tembisa High School and 18 schools in Soweto access high-quality learning tools that were previously out of reach. In 2025, more than 1,000 students benefitted from Tracker’s support.
By supporting MathU, Tracker is helping to create opportunities for students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), which benefits the entire country. This partnership shows how technology, when used with purpose, can make a real difference.
“In a world where technology is reshaping every aspect of our lives, education is no exception. MathuU has helped hundreds of learners, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to excel in Mathematics and Physical Science. We couldn’t have done this without our corporate partners, and through this collaboration, we have not only facilitated academic achievement but have also instilled a sense of possibility and aspiration in students who may have once doubted their potential. The results speak for themselves and we hope to extend the reach of the programme to under-resourced student through a zero rating for our app, bridging further educational gaps and creating pathways for a brighter future,” says Will Burger, CEO, MathU Society.
“Tracker is known for protecting its clients and their vehicles, but it is also helping protect futures. This will be the 10th year of our partnership with MathU, and as the partnership grows, so does its impact. Tracker’s continued investment means more learners will gain access to tools that can change their academic trajectory – and their lives,” says Dillan Fernando, Tracker CEO.
