The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) joins the people of Gauteng in mourning the passing of former Councillor and Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC), Alderman Terrence Mashigo.
Alderman Mashigo will be fondly remembered for his long and distinguished service in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, where he served as an influential African National Congress (ANC) Councillor for many years. His dedication to public service and commitment to community development left a lasting impact on the capital city.
During his tenure as MMC for Community Safety, he played a pivotal role in strengthening public safety and law enforcement oversight. He provided political leadership to the Tshwane Metro Police Department and worked tirelessly to promote safer communities across the municipality.
Mashigo worked closely with the Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Hon. Morakane Mosupyoe, during their time as key leaders in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality. Their collaboration reached its peak between 2011 and 2016, when they collectively contributed to the governance and administration of the city under the leadership of then-Executive Mayor, Dr Kgosientso Ramokgopa.
The Legislature extends heartfelt condolences to the Mashigo family, friends, comrades, and all those who had the privilege of working with him. His contribution to local governance and community safety will not be forgotten.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the Mashigo family during this difficult time. May you find strength and comfort in the legacy of his service and the many lives he touched,” said Honourable Morakane Mosupyoe.
Hon. Mosupyoe will visit the Mashigo family on Tuesday at 14h00 to convey her condolences in person.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
