Intelwatch is hosting a Zoom discussion mapping threats to the media in Namibia on Thursday 13 August 2026 @14:30pm CAT.
This discussion follows a research report by Dr Phillip Santos & Frederico Links titled Mapping threats to the media in Namibia.
The report highlights some of the extant threats to the unfettered operation of news media, that can potentially undermine the condition of democracy in Namibia.
These include the threats posed by legacy/colonial and new laws with provisions that restrict the operations of the media or access to key information which is imperative to informed decision making (examples include laws that constitute the surveillance framework, defamation laws, security laws, among others).Further the report explores political and institutional threats, shrinking revenue sources and misogynistic attitudes and practices as major threats to press freedom in Namibia.
