There’s something really exciting about seeing a young orchestra growing in Soweto and the Soweto Theatre Youth Orchestra is a project worth watching.
Now heading into its second year, Chapters of Her brings the full orchestra together for a Women’s Month concert celebrating some of the extraordinary African women who shaped our musical history, including Miriam Makeba, Sophie Mgcina, Sylvia Mdunyelwa and Dorothy Masuka.
Music, poetry and storytelling come together in new orchestral arrangements, with acclaimed jazz pianist Thandi Ntuli and conductor Chevonne Plaatjies joining a female-led creative team that also includes Rorisang Motuba, Nikeziwe Bonga and Nontobeko Hlahla.
