Intelwatch is hosting a second regional advocacy roundtable on Monday, 26 October 2026 at 14:30 CAT, focusing on political interference and media capture across seven Southern African countries.
Building on Intelwatch’s research reports mapping threats to the media in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini and Mozambique, the discussion will explore how political pressures, interference from powerful actors and media capture undermine editorial independence and journalists’ ability to report freely.
Bringing together journalists, editors and media freedom advocates, the roundtable aims to identify gaps in existing responses and explore practical opportunities for collective advocacy, accountability and regional collaboration.
Panellists of the discussion include:
Njabulo Ncube – Associate Director, Southern Africa Editors Forum
Estacio Valoi – Journalist, Mozambique
Pascalinah Kabi – Journalist and Author of Intelwatch’s Female Journalists Report
Michael Schmidt – Acting General Secretary, Professional Journalists’ Association of South Africa (ProJourn)
