As we prepare for World Read Aloud Day on 3 February 2027, we are calling on everyone to take a stand for children’s literacy by making a pledge to read aloud.
We invite parents, caregivers, educators, business owners, community leaders, civil society organisations, sports stars, celebrities, politicians and other public figures to commit to reading aloud with children on the day and making it part of everyday life.
Why pledge?
Because every child deserves the opportunity to grow up surrounded by stories. Reading aloud builds language, sparks imagination, strengthens connections and lays the foundation for lifelong learning. But changing South Africa’s reading culture requires all of us to play our part.
