Raise taxes to protect health.
Sugary drinks and alcoholic beverages are getting cheaper, due to consistently low tax rates in most countries, fueling obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancers and injuries, especially in children and young adults.
Since 2022:
Sugary drinks have become more affordable in 62 countries.
Beer is now more affordable in 56 countries, while spirits are more affordable in 67 countries.
This is a global warning sign. Strong health taxes are one of the fastest, most cost-effective, and highest-ROI policies available.  WHO urges governments to unlock health taxes on sugary drinks and alcohol to save lives and raise revenue.
