Intelwatch is hosting a Zoom discussion mapping threats to the media in Eswatini on todayThursday 23 July 2026 @14:30pm CAT.

This discussion follows a research report by Magnificent Mndebele titled A press under siege : Mapping threats to the media in Eswatini.

The report argues that the media in Eswatini exists and operates in a profound paradox in that it is constitutionally guaranteed yet systemically besieged.

This environment is not merely restrictive – it is calculated to be hostile to the media and is deliberately engineered to ensure that any departure from the state-sanctioned narrative carries a heavy price for both the individual journalist and the media institution they serve.

Panellists of the discussion include:

Magnificent Mndebele – Co-author of the report
Melissa Msweli – Journalist
Zwelethu Dlamini – Managing Director Inhlase Centre for Investigative Journalism
Dr Henri-Count Evans – Senior Journalism Lecturer at Eswatini University
Jabu Matsebula – Eswatini Editors Forum
