Fixlocal is a website, WhatsApp platform and (coming soon) an App that helps people find the quickest route to address local government service delivery problems and to hold local government to account when necessary.
- Find fixlocal on www.fixlocal.org.za or on WhatsApp 060 061 1111.
- Tired of electricity and water outages, potholes, sewerage flowing into your streets? Fixlocal is here to help!
- Local government, responsible for the provision of these services, is all too often “Missing in Action”. Many of these services are our constitution right and millions of us pay rates and taxes to secure them. South Africans are tired and despondent and often do not know where to start when it comes to fixing service delivery failures.
- In response to this deepening crisis, fixlocal is an innovative new initiative poised to make waves across South Africa.
- Fixlocal provides step-by-step ‘how-to’ guides, links, tools and templates on:
How to report a problem (leaking sewage, potholes, broken streetlights, traffic lights and much more)
How to find your councillor
Geolocation will link the user to their ward and councilor details, to help escalate the problem if you have no success with reporting. Councillors are public servants and are paid for by us to make sure local government works for all citizens
How to fix a problem
Fixlocal provides many tools that to help organize collectively for change. Ranging from forming WhatsApp groups, residents’ associations, Community Policing Forums to ways that ordinary people can help mobilise others in their communities to “fix local” together. As a last resort there are also step-by-step guides to fix things where it is safe and legal to do so.
