The Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts and Culture has noted with sadness the passing of the veteran actor, Patrick Shai.
The Chairperson of the committee, Beauty Dlulane, said the passing of Mr Shai was a blow to the fight against women abuse and gender-based violence.
“Here is a gender activist, who championed the cause for the end to women and child abuse when it was not fashionable to do so. Apart from his on-screen exploits, Shai was a serious gender activist who spoke out on men who abuse women,” said Dlulane.
Shai passed on Saturday. He played prominent roles over the years on such programmes as hearts and minds, cry the beloved country, zero tolerance, zone 14 as well as soul city.
The arts community will forever be poorer with the departure of this legend.
