COMMITTEE INVESTIGATES GAUTENG’S GOVERNMENT HOUSING BACKLOG!
Today, 1 March 2022, the Portfolio Committee on COGTA & Human Settlements at the Gauteng Legislature will engage with various stakeholders on the processes involved in the delivery of government housing projects.
In October 2020, the Portfolio Committee embarked on a process of assessing government housing service delivery in the Province and visited numerous unfinished projects across the various regions of Gauteng. During these oversight visits, the Portfolio Committee discovered that challenges in the beneficiaries’ identification and subsequent allocation processes are some of the main factors contributing to backlogs.
Tomorrow’s hybrid Seminar forms part of the Portfolio Committee’s efforts towards addressing the housing backlog and accelerating delivery of housing across the Province. The investigation will focus on the identification process of the housing beneficiaries and the allocation of RDP houses; inclusive of engagements with both the Provincial Departments as well as Municipalities (City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane and Ekurhuleni).
Members of the media are invited to cover the hybrid Seminar.
Details of the Seminar are as follows:
Time: 10h00 am
Venue: The Innovation Hub, Pretoria
