Every day, ordinary South Africans are waking up and doing something to make a difference in our country.
Last month, for example, over 150 volunteers armed with Petco collection bags caught the Robben Island ferry to take part in International Clean-Up Day.
Organised by our long-standing member, Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages, in collaboration with Robben Island Museum and the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds, this has been an annual commitment for almost a decade – and Petco has been a proud partner of this clean–up for many years!
As a World Heritage Site, the island’s proximity to one of the world’s busiest ports leaves it exposed to marine debris, including plastic, fishing gear and ropes, which can threaten seabirds and other coastal wildlife. For Petco, events like these highlight the importance of working together over time to protect sensitive coastal ecosystems and keep recyclable packaging out of the environment.
