The FW de Klerk Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of its Constitutional Rights and Constitutional Advancement Programmes. These two separate programmes will aim to better achieve the Foundation’s goal of making South Africa’s constitutional democracy a reality for all citizens. “The Constitutional Rights Programme takes the place of the former general Constitutional Programme,” says Daniela Ellerbeck, an attorney and the FW de Klerk Foundation’s Constitutional Rights Programme Manager. “Its goal is to protect and promote the Constitution ,”Ellerbeck continues, “specifically by engaging on issues, bills or policies that would erode the Constitution’s founding values, or its Bill of Rights, to safeguard all South Africans’ rights and freedoms.” “The Constitutional Advancement Programme is a new initiative of the Foundation,” explains Ismail Joosub, the FW de Klerk Foundation’s Constitutional Advancement Programme Manager. “It will focus primarily on the youth, equipping them to be active citizens in South Africa’s constitutional democracy. To this end, the Programme is in the process of launching several university chapters.” |
