The FW de Klerk Foundation extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Former Minister Pravin Gordhan, who passed away this morning at the age of 75. The Foundation recognises Pravin Gordhan’s invaluable contributions to South Africa’s constitutional democracy. Gordhan, who served as South Africa’s first commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (“SARS”) and twice as finance minister, demonstrated exceptional dedication to public service. “Pravin Gordhan’s impact on South Africa’s governance and his role in defending our democracy will be remembered with great respect. His actions during a period of immense political pressure were instrumental in protecting the democratic framework of our nation. His unyielding resolve in the face of state capture embodied the spirit of integrity and accountability that underpins our Constitution. We mourn his loss and honour his enduring contributions to our nation,” stated Christo van der Rheede , the FW de Klerk Foundation’s Executive Director. Gordhan will be remembered for his steadfast commitment to our constitutional values and his courageous stand against corruption, especially against state capture. |
