The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Petitions Standing Committee, chaired by Honourable Vuyiswa Jentile, will hold a public hearing on Thursday, 15 May 2025 in Emfuleni Municipality to address long-standing service delivery issues raised through petitions submitted by local residents.
The Committee is visiting Emfuleni to address petitions adopted by the Legislature, which are directly linked to persistent service delivery challenges in the area. Emfuleni continues to experience severe backlogs and breakdowns in basic services, prompting community members to petition the Legislature for urgent intervention.
Key provincial and municipal departments have been invited to respond to unresolved matters, including; (attached are the full details of the petitions to be heard)
- Service Delivery Failures in Sebokeng
- Relocation and Provision of Services in Tshepiso
- Rates and Taxes Billing Disputes
- Hijacking of Erfs in Evaton
These hearings form part of the Legislature’s constitutional mandate to hold the executive accountable and ensure responsive governance through the Gauteng Petitions Act (No. 5 of 2002).
