The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL), under the leadership of its Presiding Officers, is set to launch its annual School Readiness Campaign starting today (Wednesday, 15th January 2025). This campaign reflects GPL’s commitment to ensuring that schools across the province are fully equipped to receive learners and provide quality education as the new academic year begins.
Hon. Morakane Mosupyoe (Speaker), Hon. Nomvuyo Mhlakaza-Manamela (Deputy Speaker), Hon. Dalton Adams (Chairperson of Committees), Hon. Thulani Kunene (Deputy Chairperson of Committees); and Hon. Moipone Mhlongo (Chairperson of the Education Portfolio Committee) will spearhead the oversight campaign, visiting various schools across the province. Their visits will focus on assessing infrastructure, safety, learning materials, and educator support. By engaging directly with school management teams, educators, and learners, the campaign aims to identify challenges requiring the government’s attention; and promote accountability within the education system.
The School Readiness Campaign will take the Presiding Officers to primary, secondary, and special schools across all five regions of Gauteng. The visits will include direct engagements with stakeholders to address barriers to effective teaching and learning.
