By Advocate Marcia Nompumelelo Davids,
My grade 8 history teacher once said “you will not be a lawyer because you don’t do well in history”.
My dreams of becoming a lawyer were shattered.
Fast forward, I am the only person in the history of the school to do a PhD in Environmental Law (focusing on climate change mitigation and adaptation).
I am today a member of Pretoria Society of Advocates and Polokwane Society of Advocates, respectively.
Should I add?
I am the 1st female African Master Candidate at The FBA – The Football Business Academy.
What the teacher didn’t know is that my father believed in me (May his soul rest in peace). He attended all my moot court competitions, and the only person who stood up and clapped for me in open court when I was admitted as an advocate.
I have experience in public law. Skilled in insolvency law, business rescue, Aviation law, Environmental law (Impact Assessment Appeals, Waste Management & Air Quality), and Mining Energy law (renewables, Oil & Gas). Certificate in Advanced Construction Law. Certificate in Energy & Climate Change Law. Accreditation certificate in Air, Space and Telecommunications Law. Passed GCB pupillage exams.
I hope my story inspires someone to weather the storms.
