Media is also a vital tool for social change!

With the outstanding support from the Malala fund and Rise Up for Girls, YouthHubAfrica launched the Basic Education Media Fellowship which kicked-off with a 3-day training of 15 selected journalists and media professionals from diverse media houses across Nigeria.The 3-day training had key facilitators from the media and Civil society space who trained and engaged fellows on the state of basic education in Nigeria, understanding policies and legislative processes, assessing the role of media in advocacy, Methods and strategies of investigative reporting, Self care and Safety in policy and education reporting amongst several other key sessions.

The highlight of the the 3-day training was the Fellows Award and Gala  Night where top 3 fellows with unique submissions covering Basic Education-related stories in Nigeria were awarded cash prizes. Fellows will also be awarded the sum of 1000 USD each to support their media research, report writing and advocacy.

For the next six months, fellows will produce unique stories and uncover issues plaguing Basic Education and education financing in Nigeria. They’ll use their media skills to advocate for improved basic education financing in Nigeria.
