New Literary Voices: Writing and Publishing in Indigenous Languages Winners

The Academic and Non-Fiction Authors’ Association of South Africa launched the inaugural New Literary Voices: Writing and Publishing in Indigenous Languages is a project funded by the Department of Sports Arts and Culture. This project aims to make an impact on the cultural and economic development of the creative sector by empowering authors writing in indigenous languages.
ANFASA hosted provincial workshops in eight of the nine provinces.
Over 160 authors writing in indigenous languages attended and 50 manuscripts were submitted for selection, five manuscripts were selected, and four books were published and will be unveiled at an official book launch on 23 May 2023.
It is our honour to announce the 2022/23 winners of the New Literary Voices project:
Umbimbi Nababulali an isiZulu Novel by Euclene Busie Maphumulo from KwaZulu Natal,
Intsini Ilotyolwa Ngeenyembezi an isiXhosa Novel Selina Velaphi from Eastern Cape,
A Ke Jona Bokhutlo a Setswana Novel by Mamokete Lucy Morake-Toolo from the Free State,
A Nge Swi Rivali a Xitsonga Novel by Gerrie Magwaza from Limpopo!

Mzukona Mantshontsho is the founder of Nyakaza Media Solutions.
