Thousands of unsuspecting consumers are at risk from dangerous, substandard products being sold in local markets. Following the successful operations in KwaZulu-Natal last week, the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) will now continue its national enforcement drive in Limpopo.
From 26 – 28 August 2025, the NRCS, in partnership with the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Capricorn District, and Polokwane Local Municipalities, will conduct high-impact surprise raids to seize unsafe goods and hold non-compliant traders accountable.
Details of the operations are as follows:
• Tuesday, 26 August 2025 – Polokwane CBD
Meeting point: Polokwane SAPS on Schoeman Street
Time: 9h00
• Wednesday, 27 August 2025 – Lebowakgomo
Meeting point: Lebowakgomo Central police Station
Time: 9h00
• Thursday, 28 August 2025 – Polokwane CBD
Meeting point: Polokwane SAPS on Schoeman Street – Open Space
Time: 9h00
The team will begin with a short briefing before moving into hotspots identified through intelligence and consumer tip-offs for selling non-compliant and unsafe goods.
Raids will target both formal and informal traders, ensuring full compliance with compulsory specifications under the NRCS Act No. 5 of 2008. Any unsafe products will be seized and removed immediately, protecting the public and reinforcing the NRCS’s zero-tolerance approach to non-compliance.
