It was a great success, with productive results and tangible crime prevention. Focus was escalated to stopping and testing motor bikes.
Media Liaison Officer Warrant Officer Stanton said: “A sharp increase in the thefts of motor bikes has been noted by Cosmo City Police station recently. Motor bikes are seen as easy targets, because unlike motor vehicles, they do not have to be started first and then driven away, but instead can be carried away or loaded onto a transport.
Also, they are very easy to strip and be used for spare parts.
“It is very important that motor bikes are not left outside at night. We have even heard of motor bikes been carried out of peoples locked yards and lifted over walls.”
He advised that: “If you cannot afford satellite tracking, or don’t have a room or garage to park your motor bike in at night, it is strongly suggested that you take alternative measures to safeguard your motorbike. One can use a strong thick chain to put through the wheels and fasten it to a fixed object. You can also look online for other affordable theft protection devices, such as Disc Brake Alarms that cost around R350.”
