Led by Honourable Bonginkosi Dhlamini, the Oversight Committee on the Premier’s Office and the Legislature (OCPOL) is currently reviewing the Gauteng Provincial Laws General Amendment Bill [G007-2020]. This forms part of OCPOL’s oversight function over the Premier’s Office and the Gauteng Legislature.
The Bill seeks to rationalise the appointment or reappointment of members of boards, and the hiring of chief executives of provincial public entities. In line with this, it seeks to amend the following pieces of legislation:
- The Gauteng Gambling Act, 1995;
- The Consumer Affairs (Unfair Business Practices) Act, 1996
- The Gauteng Tourism Act, 2001;
- The Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (Proprietary) Limited Act, 2003;
- The Gauteng Enterprise Propeller Act, 2005;
- The Gautrain Management Agency Act, 2006; and
- The Gauteng Liquor Act, 2014.
OCPOL will conduct a public hearing on the Bill to solicit inputs and written submissions from key stakeholders and Gauteng residents. This is a mandatory requirement of the Constitution to ensure that residents scrutinize the Bill and make contributions – so that their voices are represented in legislative processes.
Members of the media are invited to cover the sessions as follows:
- Date & Time: Friday, 03 November 2022 @ 10am
- Venue: Sunnyside Park Hotel and Conference Centre
