Protea Glen Library held Substance Abuse Awareness Programme at Glenridge Primary School with 165 Grade 7 learners.
Key stakeholders—SANCA Soweto, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), and Ex Convict and Recovered Drug Addict—were invited to engage with the learners. Each stakeholder shared valuable insights into the services they provide in the fight against substance abuse.
The programme featured impactful discussions on how these stakeholders address issues such as alcoholism and drug dependence through specialized, accessible, and affordable treatment and prevention services.
Learners gained knowledge about different types of drugs, the dangers of substance abuse, and, most importantly, how to make informed decisions. Topics included resisting peer pressure, reporting bullying and abuse, and making positive life choices.
