| We can’t contain the excitement about unveiling our 2022 Basic Education Media Fellows. The Basic Education media Fellowship is an initiative funded by the Malala Fund and RiseUp that seeks to recognise impact driven stories on basic education in Nigeria. We see advocacy as a collective responsibility of citizens and the government, media however plays a key role in bridging the knowledge gap and increasing public awareness on key issues and the need for policy reforms. In this regard, the Basic Education Media Fellowship choses to recognise and strengthen the capacity of 15 existing media personnel to understand the nuances of education funding and laws in Nigeria, how to use their skills, existing platform and networks to advocate for a 12 years free, safe, quality education in Nigeria. The fellowship will also support media reporting towards the amendment of the Universal basic Education Act, and the National Secondary Education Commission Act. |
