Yo School Magazine had the opportunity to speak to top learner for the Matric Class of 2018 at S’godiphola Secondary School Mashila Sekgala.
How do you feel about your achievements?
“I’m overwhelmed with joy and feeling blessed about the results,” she said joyously.
How did you manage to do so well?
Having sleepless nights in order to make sure that I cover most of the work that i found challenging. Another thing I did was to seek help from the teachers at all times.

Mathematics – 82%
Business studies – 91%
Accounting – 90%
Economics – 89%
Life Orientation – 89%
English FAL – 75%
What is next for you after this hurdle?
I have been accepted at at 3 universities namely: Wits, Stellenbosch University and University of Cape Town. I’m planning to go to University of Cape Town to study Actuarial Science.
In terms of funding, who will be paying your fees at tertiary?
I’m still waiting for responses from companies and foundations I had approached – if that fails, my NSFAS application has been successful.
Your advice for the Matric Class of 2019:
My advice is that they should use past examination papers as early as possible and they should never stress or panic in times of exams as that will result in them performing badly.
They must have a positive attitude towards every subjects and shouldn’t neglect any subjects when they study as all subjects are as important as the major ones.
S’godiphola Secondary School recorded an 83.1% pass mark for the Matric Class of 2018.
Of the 141 learners that sat for the examinations, 11 will write their other subjects this year to get their NSC. 51 of the learners got Bachelors’, 42 got Diplomas’, and 15 Higher Certificate eligibility. In total, 108 achieved, while 22 did not achieve but qualify for supplementary examinations.
The school got 38 distinctions.
