We used the game of football as a tool to engage young men and boys on the key role they play in creating safer spaces for women and girls.
Thanks to the exceptional support from UNWomen, Spotlight Initiative, YouthHubAfrica concluded the male engagement with a Football tournament finale in the Federal Capital Territory and Ebonyi State. The tournament was held between the winning teams in the two states.
The tournament was a creative avenue to sensitise young men and boys on their role in ending all forms of violence against Women and Girls, how to report such cases witnessed in their communities and measures that must be taken to better protect the rights of women and young girls in their respective spheres.
The football tournament had representatives from the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Women Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA), the FCT Secondary School Education Board, the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and the FCT social development secretariat.
The highlight of the tournament was the award of trophies to the top 3 teams and the avenue created for a dialogue between the young men on issues around consent, sexual and domestic violence, as well as other forms of violence perpetrated against Women.
