The fight for food justice continues. The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) is launching an inquiry into South Africa’s food systems. The hearing inquiry will take place from Thursday, 12 March 2026, to Friday, 20 March 2026, and as amandla.mobi, we will be presenting on Friday, the 13th March at 8 am, and we would love it if you could join us.
Food Prices keep increasing at a rate that has become really concerning, and people from low-income communities continue to be the most affected. Many families are now forced to choose between essential needs, such as transportation, healthcare and food. This is not right.
In addition to presenting, we will hold peaceful demonstrations outside the hearing venue on select days to show solidarity with the SAHRC. Our presence there will send a strong message to people attending these hearings, including government and big business, that the people need food prices to drop. We invite you to join us on any of the dates if you can. You can RSVP by replying to this email or by sending us a message at 0621776937.
Date: 12 March 2026 – 20 March 2026
Venue: 107 Central St, Houghton Estate, Johannesburg, 2198 (Nelson Mandela Foundation).
Time: 8h00 – 16h30

Mzukona Mzimasi, it is heartbreaking that millions of people go to bed hungry every night, and children suffer from conditions caused by hunger and lack of access to nutritious foods. Food is a human right, and we all deserve access to it. Urgent action is needed to make food access a reality for all.
More than 25,000 people, including you, have signed the petition calling on Shoprite to drop food prices. Together, we have to keep fighting until this becomes a reality.
