The 16 Days of Activism for no Violence against Women and Children abuse campaign this year is the period between Friday 25 November and Thursday 10 December when activists raise heightened awareness around gender violence.
The campaign began in 1991 and since then has brought various stakeholders including gender activists, civil society, government, the private sector, faith based organizations, communities and development partners to find lasting strategies to end gender and children violence.
The 16-day period also highlights other significant dates as follows:
 25 November: International Day of No Violence and Abuse against Women and Children,
 1 December: World AIDS Day,
 3 December: International Day for People living with Disabilities,
 6 December: Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre – where 14 females engineering students were gunned down by a man because they were alleged feminist, and
 10 December: International Human Rights Day.
