The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety expresses its outrage and deep concern following the horrific incident that took place on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, at Inxiweni Primary School in Tembisa, where the School Principal and an Administrative staff member were brutally shot and killed within the school premises.
This appalling act of violence, committed in a space where children should feel safe and protected, highlights the severe and escalating impact of gun violence in our communities.
Schools must remain places of learning and development, not scenes of tragic loss. Educators, learners and staff should never have to fear for their safety while carrying out their duties within school premises.
The Committee condemns this senseless attack in the strongest possible terms. It is unacceptable that lives continue to be taken so violently, leaving families devastated and entire communities traumatized.
This tragedy underscores the urgent need to advance the call for a Gun Free Gauteng. Firearms remain central to most violent crimes in the Province, robbing families of loved ones and often of their primary sources of support.
Reducing the number of guns circulating in Gauteng is critical to preventing incidents like this and ensuring safer communities for all.
The Committee therefore urges strict compliance with gun-control laws and calls on Law Enforcement Agencies in Gauteng to intensify their efforts to remove illegal firearms from communities and dismantle the networks that supply them.
Strengthened and coordinated actions are essential if the province is to move closer to the vision of a gun-free society.
Furthermore, the Committee appeals to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible for these senseless killings to come forward and report it to the South African Police Service. The perpetrators of this heinous crime must be brought to justice.
The Portfolio Committee on Community Safety extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the learners, staff and broader school community affected by this devastating incident.
