The Presiding Officers of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL), led by the Speaker, Honourable Morakane Mosupyoe, will on Saturday, 18 July 2026, participate in a series of community outreach activities across Gauteng in commemoration of Nelson Mandela International Day.
In keeping with this year’s Mandela Day commemorations, the Presiding Officers will dedicate their time to serving communities by participating in various initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable groups and contributing to the wellbeing of residents. These activities are inspired by the enduring legacy of the late President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, whose life was defined by compassion, humility and selfless service to humanity.
The Presiding Officers will join community members, civil society organisations and local stakeholders in practical acts of service that seek to uplift communities and bring hope to those most in need. The activities will include initiatives focused on providing support to disadvantaged communities and institutions, reaffirming the Legislature’s commitment to being a responsive and caring public institution.
Mandela Day serves as a powerful reminder that each person has the ability and responsibility to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Through these activities, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature seeks to encourage citizens to embrace the values that Madiba championed throughout his life, including service, social justice, compassion and active citizenship.
