The South African Reserve Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee announces its interest rate decision on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
It raised the repo rate by 25 basis points to 7% in May, lifting prime to 10.5%. Then held in July on a 4-2 vote, with two members favouring another hike.
Annual inflation slowed to 4.3% in July from 5.0% in June but remains above the 3% target. A hike would raise repayments on variable-rate debt for households and small businesses.
