Lindokuhle ‘Jeezy’ Mabona says his roots are in Matatiele in the Eastern Cape but was born in Sundowner where his mother and grandmother were working as domestic workers in 1995.
“I went to the top schools luckily, so I’d say my childhood was great, my mom and Grandmother made sure I had everything I needed”.
As a young person and belonging to the “Born-Frees” generation, all he ever wanted was to throw one of the biggest parties in town and everybody would enjoy responsibly and talk about it.
“I remember doing research at school in Fourways High and spoke to about 100 learners. I had three questions: Would you party in winter? What would you want to see in a great party? If I was having a party, would you come and support me?”
The Day of Party was set, and he started planning: “I created a Facebook page called Kasi Vibez, designed posters and asked all my friends to distribute in Cosmo City, Zandspruit, and Diepsloot. The idea was a winter street bash. I went on to Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook and sent SMSs to everyone I knew and asked DJs to play for me as a favour. Finally, I approached the owner of a Chisanyama called Summer Breeze on Sierra Leone in extension two. I WANT TO HOST A PARTY; can I use your venue? I gave him all the details, he said YES”.
“Only 500 people had indicated they would come on the Kasi Vibez Facebook page. At around 8pm, it was like a concert – we had around 4000 people, the SAPS at around 10pm came and stopped the fun, people left, they came back around 12 midnight, the party went on until the next morning.
Kasi Vibez was born, people call me now to organise their events”. He is going to school though, to do Public Relations and Marketing and follow his dreams of an Events Management company!
