The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety invites members of the media to attend a briefing by the Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, on the Province’s 4th Quarter Crime Statistics for the period January to March 2026.

The briefing forms part of the Committee’s constitutional oversight responsibility to monitor the performance of law enforcement agencies and assess measures aimed at improving public safety across Gauteng.

In addition to presenting the 4th quarter crime trends and patterns, Lieutenant General Mthombeni will brief the Committee on the South African Police Service’s operational readiness and contingency plans to maintain law and order during the anticipated anti-migration protests expected to take place on 30 June 2026.

The Committee believes that the briefing will provide valuable insights into the state of crime in Gauteng and the measures being implemented by law enforcement agencies to safeguard communities and ensure that public demonstrations take place within the confines of the law.

Details of the Briefing are as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 9 June 2026

Time: 9h00

Venue: Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre, O.R Tambo, Kempton Park

Members of the media are invited to cover the briefing.  Opportunities for interviews will be available prior and following the session.
